Aztecs Football Beat Glendale CC, Earn WSFL Winner's Bracket Playoff Bid

The Pima Community College football team (6-2, 5-2 in WSFL) will have a chance to capture the regular season WSFL conference title next week after the Aztecs took care of business on Saturday.

After a nearly three hour rain delay, the Aztecs defeated Glendale Community College 34-19 at Tucson Magnet High School. The win put the Aztecs one game behind Snow College and gave them an automatic bid in the WSFL winner's bracket. Snow lost against Eastern Arizona College 37-27.

Glendale struck first as they returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown to put the Aztecs in an early hole. After a punt and a turnover on downs on their first two drives, the Aztecs found their offensive rhythm. Sophomore quarterback Donovan Moore (Tucson Magnet HS) scored two rushing touchdowns. His first score came on a two-yard run to tie the game at 7-7. He scored his second touchdown in the beginning of the fourth quarter on another two-yard run to put the Aztecs ahead 31-10 with 13:07 left in the game.

Moore got plenty of help from fellow sophomore Deontay Townsend (Mountain Pointe HS), who also had two rushing touchdowns. He put the Aztecs up in the second quarter with a two yard run to make it 14-7. The Aztecs marched 95 yards on the drive and sophomore Eric Dedrick made a 30-yard reception to help set up the score. Up 17-7 with 1:01 left in the half, sophomore Landry Payne (Mountain Pointe HS) returned a punt to the Glendale 23-yardline. Freshman Darrell Clark caught a 21-yard pass and Townsend carried it in for the one-yard score to make it 24-7. The Aztecs led 24-10 at halftime.

Nathan Farmer (Ironwood Ridge HS) went 2 for 2 in field goal attempts hitting from 40 and 31 yards. He also went 4 for 4 on points after touchdowns.

The Aztecs have won six games for the first time since the 2004 season when they went 9-3 and won the Pilgrim's Pride Bowl.

The Aztecs will play at No. 2 Snow College next Saturday in Ephraim, UT at 11:00 a.m.
