Six score in double figures as men's basketball cruises by Benedictine University JV
The Pima Community College men's basketball team (10-3) took control in the first half and poured it on in the second half on Monday as the Aztecs returned to action after the holiday break.
The No. 15 ranked Aztecs defeated Benedictine University at Mesa's junior varsity team 119-55.
The Aztecs began to pull away in the first half when they went on a 12-1 run to take 24-11 lead with a little over 10 minutes left. They led 51-27 at the break and continued their showcase their speed and athleticism in the early minutes of the second half. Pima went on an 18-4 run in a little over three minutes to take a 74-34 advantage with 15 minutes left. The Aztecs outscored the Redhawks 68-28 for the second half.
The Aztecs shot 53 percent for the game as the bench contributed with 56 points. Sophomore Deion James (Empire HS) led the way with a game-high 23 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore Javon Peterson and freshman Isaiah Murphy (Cienega HS) each scored 16 points off the bench. Sophomore Damon Dubots had 15 points and eight rebounds while fellow sophomore Emilio Acedo (Salpointe Catholic HS) finished with 14 points and three steals. Freshman Ilunga Moise (Kellis HS) had a double-double of 13 points and 13 rebounds.
The Aztecs will get back to ACCAC conference play on Wednesday when they host Scottsdale Community College at the West Campus gym. Game is set to start at 7:30 p.m.
