Dillan Baker nets 23 points as Men's Basketball beats Frank Phillips College to go 3-0 at Aztec Holiday Classic

The Pima Community College men's basketball team (12-1) completed play in the Aztec Holiday Classic on Saturday and finished undefeated in play at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium.

  • The No. 18 ranked Aztecs defeated Frank Phillips College 81-63 and went 3-0 against NJCAA Division I teams. They beat Eastern Wyoming College 111-65 on Thursday downed Bismarck State College 92-73 on Friday.
  • The Aztecs led 46-40 early in the second half and sophomore Cesar Saenz (Sabino HS) converted on a three-point play and scored the next basket to put the Aztecs up by double digits. His mini run sparked a 13-0 run for Pima as they took a 59-40 with 10:50 left.
  • The Aztecs held their biggest lead of the game at 70-46 when freshman Mike Pope hit a three-pointer. The Aztecs maintained their double-digit lead to close them out.
  • The Aztecs went up early but the Plainsmen counteredwith a 10-0 run to put Pima down 12-11. Freshman Dillan Baker (Salpointe Catholic HS) hit a three-pointer to put the Aztecs back up on the next possession. Pope converted on a four-point play and Baker had a three-point play to make it 36-22. The Aztecs led 38-30 at halftime.
  • Baker finished with a game-high 23 points as he went 6 for 12 from the field and 4 for 8 from three-point range. He was also 7 for 8 from the free throw line.
  • Sophomore Traivar Jackson posted 17 points, five rebounds and three steals. Pope added 13 points as he went 4 for 5 from downtown and also had five rebounds and three assists.
  • Saenz contributed with 10 points, seven rebounds, six assists, two steals and a block.

The Aztecs get back to ACCAC conference play on Wednesday when they host South Mountain Community College. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
