Second unit sparks 20-0 run as No. 6 Men's Basketball beats PHH Prep
The Pima Community College men's basketball team (16-0) played its first game of 2025 on Saturday against PHH Prep at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium.
- The No. 6 ranked Aztecs won their 16th straight game after beating the Fire Frogs 106-65.
- With the game tied at 12-12, the Aztecs turned to their second unit of sophomore Cooper Jones (Buena HS), and freshmen Brigg Wolfe (Mesa Mountain View HS), Mason Hunt (Bradshaw Mountain HS), Isaac Johnson and Kaelum Brown (Casteel HS), who sparked a 20-0 run to put Pima up 32-12. The five played much of the first half as the Aztecs went up 60-28 at the break.
- The Aztecs used another 13-0 run early in the second half to take an 85-38 lead and help seal the game.
- Jones led the way with a team-high 19 points as he went 7 for 14 from the field and hit four 3-pointers.
- Hunt finished with a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds as he was 6 for 10 from the field and 3 for 3 from three-point range.
- Johnson was the third bench player to score in double figures as he posted 11 points after going 5 for 7 shooting. He also added six rebounds and three blocks.
- Sophomore Max Majerle (Arcadia HS) contributed with 12 points, five rebounds and three assists while fellow sophomore Kota Benson had 11 points after going 3 for 5 from beyond the arc.
- Sophomores Cohenj Gonzales (Mesquite HS) and Wes Ball (Marana HS) each finished with eight points and Wolfe closed out the game with seven points and seven assists.
The Aztecs will be back at the West Campus Aztec Gym on Wednesday when they host Grand Canyon University JV at 6:00 p.m.
