Aztecs men's soccer season ends with loss against Tyler JC

The Pima Community College men's soccer team couldn't stop Tyler Junior College in the second half on Thursday in the final game of Group D play at the NJCAA National Tournament.

The No. 5 seeded Aztecs gave up five goals in the second half in their 5-0 loss at Ben Lindley Field in Prescott. The winner of the game advanced to the semifinal round on Saturday.

The Aztecs finished the season with a 21-5-1 overall record and a 12-1-1 record at the Kino North Grandstand. This was the most wins (21) in a season for the men's soccer team under David Cosgrove, who's been with the program for 18 seasons. The previous number of wins was 19 back in 2011.

This was also their best overall record since 2008 when the Aztecs went 16-3-1. Arturo Vega (Salpointe Catholic HS) was selected the ACCAC Conference Player of the Year. Coach Cosgrove also earned his 250th win during the regular season.

Coaches Quote: "It was a terrific year for us," Pima head coach David Cosgrove said. "Tyler is very good and they were better or equal to us tonight. We didn't score first and that hurt. We gave up some really bad goals.

"I couldn't be happier with the numerous marks we set this year. Our most wins in program history and our best home record ever. This group has changed the landscape and raised the expectations of Pima soccer to another level. We also could have the best team GPA we've ever had. A year to remember."
