Segura Has Hat Trick as Aztecs Men's Soccer Score 11 Goals in Win

The Pima Community College men's soccer team (13-1-2, 13-1-2 in ACCAC) secured an undefeated regular season at home on Tuesday as the Aztecs dominated Paradise Valley Community College.

The Aztecs scored five goals in the first half and six in the second half to win 11-0 at Kino North Stadium. The Aztecs finished 9-0-1 in the regular season at the Kino Sports Complex and outscored their opponents 40-8 at home.

Freshman Juan Pablo Segura (Nogales HS) had a hat trick in the second half. His goals in the 64th and 82nd minutes were assisted by sophomore Sadam Ali (Rincon HS). Segura's goal in the 69th minute was assisted by sophomore Rene Huerta (Tucson Magnet HS).

Sophomore Jason Romero scored the first two goals of the game in the 1st and 9th minutes. He has 15 goals on the season. Huerta scored his first goal of the year in the 17th minute to make it 3-0. Sophomore Angel Heredia scored a goal a minute later and fellow sophomore Alejandro Gonzalez (Flowing Wells HS) hit his shot in the 24th minute with an assist from sophomore Osvaldo Varela. Gonzalez scored another goal in the 57th minute and has 13 goals on the year.

"We finished 9-0-1 at home and that's never been done in the history of our program," Pima coach David Cosgrove said. "The guys also locked up a home playoff game. These are great accomplishments but we talked about setting bigger goals for ourselves."

The Aztecs outshot Paradise Valley 16-6. Freshmen goalkeepers Taylor Anderson (Salpointe Catholic HS) and James McWilliams (Sahuaro HS) each had three saves.

The Aztecs have a tough task ahead on Saturday when they play at No. 5 Yavapai College in Prescott at 6:00 p.m.
