Aztecs Men's Soccer Earn Shut Out at Mesa

The Pima Community College men's soccer team (14-2-2, 14-2-2 in ACCAC) put one back in the win column on Tuesday at Mesa Community College.

Sophomore Jason Romero scored two goals in Pima's 4-0 win. He netted his first goal in the second half with a cross-pass assist from fellow sophomore Alejandro Gonzalez (Flowing Wells HS) to make it 2-0. Romero helped seal it with a goal in the 81st minute with an assist from sophomore Sadam Ali (Rincon HS). Romero has 19 goals on the season.

Freshman Kyle VanAlstine (Cienega HS) put the Aztecs on the board in the 11th minute after he scored a header goal that was assisted by freshman Lorenzo Rodriguez. The Aztecs got their third goal from Rodriguez after he scored off an assist from sophomore Ryan Bristow (Ironwood Ridge HS).

The defense held Mesa without a shot on goal for the game. Pima earned a regular season sweep over Mesa as they beat them 2-1 last month at Kino North Stadium.

The Aztecs will play GateWay Community College on Thursday at the Rose Mofford Sports Complex in Phoenix. The game will start at 7:00 p.m.

Pima goals: VanAlstine (Rodriguez) 11th minute; Romero (Gonzalez) 68th minute; Rodriguez (Bristow) 74th minute; Romero (Ali) 81st minute.
