Cooper and Banegas Each Net Two as Men's Soccer Dominates South Mountain

The Pima Community College men's soccer team (10-1-1, 10-1-1 in ACCAC) won its 10th game of the season in dominating fashion on Tuesday in Phoenix.

The Aztecs took an early lead and went on to stymie South Mountain Community College (3-9, 3-9) 7-1. The Aztecs swept the regular season head-to-head meetings and outscored the Cougars 14-1 in the two games.

The men's soccer program has won at least 10 games for the 18th straight season.

Freshman Chris Cooper (University HS) and sophomore Hector Banegas (Rincon HS) each scored two goals. Cooper scored back-to-back goals in the 20th and 27th minutes to put Pima up 3-0. Banegas scored his goals in the 46th and 56th minutes.

Sophomore Carlo Valadez-Paz (Westview HS) put the Aztecs on the board in the 1st minute. Sophomore Lorenzo Rodriguez and freshman Luis Arias Jr. (Desert View HS) each scored a goal and had an assist while freshman Tatsuma Yuki had two assists.

The Aztecs led 4-0 at halftime. Sophomore goalkeeper Taylor Anderson (Salpointe Catholic HS) started the game and had no saves. Fellow sophomore James McWilliams (Sahuaro HS) played the second half and finished with three saves.

The Aztecs will play at Phoenix College on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
