Distance Runners showcased in 5,000-meter race as Men's Track & Field set four national qualifiers in first day at Willie Williams Classic

The Pima Community College men's and women's track & field teams competed in the first day of competition as part of the Willie Williams Classic held at the Roy P. Drachman Stadium.
- The Aztecs put six runners in the 5,000-race and came away with three national qualifiers and three personal-bests for the race.
- Sophomore Joel Gardner (Ironwood Ridge HS) and freshman Abraham Valenzuela (Palo Verde HS) set national qualifying times for the second straight Outdoor meet. Gardner finished third with a time of 14 minutes, 38.71 seconds. Valenzuela placed seventh with a time of 14:46.03. They both set qualifiers last week in the 1,500-meter race.
- Freshman Johnathon Lane (Walden Grove HS) crossed the finish line in 12th place as he also set a national qualifying time in the 5,000-meter event at 14:58.02.
- Freshmen Justin VanDeberg (16:22.14), Donny Speas (16:23.17) and Russell Bauer-Woodman (16:24.44) all set personal-bests in the 5,000-meter race.
- Sophomore Trey Tintinger tied for second place in the High Jump as he set his national qualifying mark at 2.05 meters (6-feet, 8.75-inches).
The Aztecs continue competition at the Willie Williams Classic on Saturday. Events begin at 11:00 a.m.
