Tyler Rogers captures High Jump Indoor National Title as Men's Track & Field leads after first day at Indoor Nationals

The Aztecs Men's Track & Field team leads in the team standings with 45 points after the first day of competition at the NJCAA Indoor National Championships. The Pima Community College men's track & field team completed the first day of competition on Friday at the NJCAA Indoor National Championships held at the Alachua County Sports and Events Center in Gainesville, FL.

  • The No. 8 ranked Aztecs sit in first place with a total of 45 team points, which is the most a Pima team has scored. New Mexico Junior College is in second place with 33 points while Iowa Western Community College sits in third with 30.5. South Plains College is in fourth place with 24 points and Barton County Community College rounds out the top five with 17 points.
  • Freshman Tyler Rogers captured the Men's High Jump Indoor National Championship after he finished with a collegiate personal-best jump of 2.10 meters (6-feet, 10.75-inches) earning 10 team points for Pima.
    Fellow freshman Nathaniel Curtiss (University HS) finished in second place with a jump of 2.04 meters (6-8.25) earning eight points. Sophomore Brett Wynn (Corona del Sol HS) also scored points in the High Jump as he tied for fourth place with a mark of 2.04 meters (56-8.25). The Aztecs scored a total of 22.5 points in the High Jump event alone.
  • The Aztecs gained 13 points in the Long Jump. Sophomore Raekwon Weatherspoon took second place with a mark of 7.52 meters (24-8.25) securing eight points while sophomore Jacques Jones (Mountain Pointe HS) finished in fourth place with a jump of 7.35 meters (24-1.50).
  • Freshman Kolby Lewis (Basha HS) took fourth place in the Pole Vault as he set a PR of 4.69 meters (15-4.50). Freshman Carter Huntsman tied for seventh place with a vault of 4.59 meters (15-0.75) and scored 1.5 points.
  • The Distance Medley Relay team of freshmen Louis Madrigal-Diaz (North Canyon HS), Alex Gallego (Poston Butte HS), and sophomores Wyatt Preble (Salpointe Catholic HS) and Abraham Valenzuela (Palo Verde HS) broke the Pima Indoor school record after earning a sixth-place finish with a time of 10 minutes, 01.73 seconds, giving Pima three team points They broke the previous record of 10:11.97 set in 2013 by Austin Stone, Lance Ross, Luis Gonzales and Alejandro Valencia.

Other finishes:

  • Adam McCoy – 12th place in Pole Vault 4.39 meters (14-4.75) (personal-record).

The Aztecs will close out competition at the NJCAA Indoor National Championships on Saturday in Gainesville, FL. Events begin at 9:00 a.m. (EST). Follow resultshere:
