Abraham Valenzuela and the 4x800 Relay team break school records as Men's Track finishes sixth at Indoor Nationals

Sophomore Abraham Valenzuela (Palo Verde HS) took second place and broke his own school record in the one-mile race with a time of 4:03.76. The 4x800 relay team of Evan Rasoumoff, Wyatt Preble, Louis Madrigal-Diaz and Caelan Pando broke the school record and took seventh place with a time of 7:50.86. The Pima Community College men's track & field team entered the final day of competition at the NJCAA Indoor National Championships sitting atop the team standings.

  • The No. 8 ranked Aztecs still finished better than their national ranking as they placed sixth in the final standings with a final score of 56 points. It was the most points scored in Pima school history.
  • Sophomore Abraham Valenzuela (Palo Verde HS) broke his own school record in the one-mile race as he took second place with a time of 4 minutes, 03.76 seconds. He broke his previous indoor record of 4:06.40.
  • The 4x800 relay team of Louis Madrigal-Diaz (North Canyon HS), Evan Rasoumoff (Catalina Foothills HS), Caelan Pando and Wyatt Preble (Salpointe Catholic HS) earned two team points and finished in seventh place setting a new Pima Indoor school record with a time of 7:50.86. They broke the old record of 8:00.79 set in 2004.
  • Sophomore Dillon Arvayo (Mountain View HS) took eighth place in the Heptathlon with a score of 4666 points gaining one team point. He set a new personal-best and is second in school history. His previous-best was 4584 points.
  • The Aztecs came away with 17 total NJCAA Indoor All-Americans.

Other finishes from Saturday's events:

  • Jacob Acedo – 9th place in the Heptathlon 4651 points (PR)
  • Kayden Gonzalez-Cockrell – 10th place in the Triple Jump 14.52 meters (47-7.75)
  • Darlington Onsarigo – 11th place in the Triple Jump 14.46 meters (47-5.25) (PR)
  • Broden Cahoon – 15th place in the Heptathlon 3771 points
  • Brett Wynn – 19th place in the Triple Jump 13.76 meters (45-1.75)

The Aztecs will begin the Outdoor Season on Thursday, Mar. 14 at the Cody McBride Invitational held at Paradise Valley Community College in Phoenix.
