McCoy, Valenzuela and Curtiss earn ACCAC Conference Champiponships

The Pima Community College men's track & field team competed in the ACCAC Conference Championships on Friday held at Paradise Valley Community College in Phoenix.

  • The No. 1 ranked Aztecs came away with three individual ACCAC Conference Championships while the team took second place after going 4-1 in head-to-head meetings. The Aztecs defeated Glendale Community College (142-47), Mesa Community College (103-92), Paradise Valley Community College (142-50) and Phoenix College (177-8).
  • Freshman Adam McCoy claimed the Pole Vault championship and improved on his national qualifying mark as he cleared a vault of 4.60 meters (15-feet, 1-inch). He improved from his previous qualifier of 4.45 meters (14-7.25).
  • Sophomore Abraham Valenzuela (Palo Verde HS) took first place in the 5,000-meter race with a time of 15 minutes, 30.34 seconds.
  • Freshman Nathaniel Curtiss (Rincon/University HS) claimed the High Jump crown, finishing with a jump of 2.04 meters (6-8.25).
  • Freshman Nasir Tucker earned a national qualifying time in the 400-meters as he took second place with a time of 47.58.
  • Freshman Jordan Cortner set his national qualifying time of the 400-meter hurdles at 54.36 seconds.
  • The top two placements in each event earned All-ACCAC Conference honors.

The Aztecs will compete at the Triton Invitational on Friday and Saturday April 5-6 at the University of California, San Diego.
