Aztecs Men's Cross Country/Track & field distance runner Brendan Torres named Chapman Automotive Aztecs Student-Athlete of the Week

Pima Community College men's cross country and track & field distance runner Brendan Torres (Empire HS) was selected as the Chapman Automotive Aztecs Student-Athlete of the Week on Monday for the week of Oct. 18-24.

  • Torres was the top Pima finisher at Saturday's ACU Invitational where he took third place overall in the 8K race with a personal-record time of 27 minutes, 20.7 seconds.
  • Player's Quote: "I am going to continue working hard for Pima Athletics and I'm hoping to end this (cross country) season with a bang," Torres said.
  • Torres, a second generation Pima student-athlete, has volunteered at the Mountain View track meet helping to clean the jump it and take measurements for jumps. He has also been a statistician for the Cienega girls soccer games.
  • Coach's Quote: "Brendan has really stepped up. He is one of the most respectful and kind people I have ever met," Pima cross country co-head coach Mark Bennett said. "He is always checking on his teammates and even us coaches."

The Aztecs men's and women's cross country teams will compete at the NJCAA Region I Championships on Friday at the Glendale Heroes Regional Park. The women's race is at 8:00 a.m. and the men's race will take place at 8:45 a.m.
