Peralta scores five run as Softball sweeps GateWay

The Pima Community College softball team (15-4, 13-3 in ACCAC) earned a conference sweep on the road at GateWay Community College on Wednesday in Phoenix.

Leadoff hitter Araceli Peralta (Tucson Magnet HS) had a great day at the plate going 5 for 8 with five runs scored, two stolen bases and a double. Jackie Hernandez (Desert Ridge HS) finished 5 for 6 with four runs scored, three RBIs, three stolen bases, two walks and a triple. Pitchers Alexis Alfonso (Canyon del Oro HS), Alexis Ayala (Sunnyside HS) and Odalis Orduno (Desert View HS) didn't give up an earned run.

Game 1: Pima CC Aztecs 12, GateWay CC Geckos 2 (5 innings)

The Aztecs' offense struck as they scored four runs in the 1st inning and five runs in the 2nd in their 12-2 win in five innings. Ayala (Sunnyside HS) hit an RBI single in the 1st inning and an RBI double in the 2nd inning as she finished 2 for 4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Sierra Cuestas (Marana HS) hit a two-run RBI double in the 5th inning as she went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Peralta was 3 for 4 with three runs scored, a double and a stolen base while Hernandez finished 2 for 2 with three runs scored, an RBI and two walks.

Alfonso picked up her eighth win of the season (8-2) as she pitched four innings giving up two runs (none earned) on four hits with three strikeouts and three walks. Ayala closed it out in the 5th giving up one hit with one strikeout.

Game 2: Pima CC Aztecs 7, GateWay CC Geckos 1

The Aztecs drew seven walks in the game and scored five runs in the 1st inning in their 7-1 win. Hernandez hit an RBI single in the 1st inning and a two-run RBI triple in the 4th as she finished 3 for 4 with three RBIs, a run scored, two stolen bases and a triple. Brianna Quiroz (Tucson Magnet HS) was 1 for 2 with two RBIs while Peralta finished 2 for 4 with two runs scored and a stolen base.

Orduno threw a complete-game giving up one run (none earned) on five hits with three strikeouts and two walks.

The Aztecs will head to El Paso, TX on Saturday to play three games at El Paso Community College. They'll play the host team at 8:00 a.m. Then the Aztecs will play Dodge City Community College (KS) at noon and finish the day against Pratt Community College (KS) at 2:00 p.m.
