Ayala hits two homers and earns shutout as softball wins 3 games

The Pima Community College softball team (18-4) won three games as part of the El Paso CC Invitational on Saturday and went undefeated in seven games for the week.

The Aztecs were led by Alexis Ayala (Sunnyside HS), who hit two home runs with seven RBIs, five runs scored and a complete-game shutout.

Game 1: Pima CC Aztecs 12, El Paso CC Tejanos 2

Ayala hit a three-run homer in the 4th inning as the Aztecs beat host El Paso Community College 12-2. Ayala finished 1 for 3 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Alyssa Montoya was 1 for 2 with two RBIs while Christine Olivas finished 2 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Alexis Alfonso (Canyon del Oro HS) picked up the win (9-2) after she pitched a complete-game giving up two runs (one earned) on nine hits with four strikeouts.

Game 2: Pima CC Aztecs 11, Dodge City CC Conquistadors 1 (5 innings)

Ayala smacked a two-run homer as part of a seven-run 4th inning as the Aztecs beat Dodge City Community College 11-1 in five innings. Ayala went 1 for 3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Taylor Fabing also hit a two-run homer in the game and finished 2 for 2 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Sierra Cuestas (Marana HS) contributed by hitting a three-run RBI double. She finished 1 for 1 with three RBIs.

Odalis Orduno (Desert View HS) pitched all five innings giving up one run (none earned) on six hits with three strikeouts and one walk. She is now 5-0 on the season.

Game 3: Pima CC Aztecs 8, Pratt CC Beavers 0 (6 innings)

Ayala did work on the mound and at the plate in the third game as the Aztecs beat Pratt Community College 8-0. Ayala threw a complete-game shutout giving up five hits with five strikeouts and two walks.

Ayala went 1 for 2 at the plate hitting a two-run RBI single in the 4th inning as she finished with two RBIs and a run scored. Keona Hunter (Santa Rita HS) finished 1 for 1 with two runs scored, an RBI and a stolen base while Jackie Hernandez (Desert Ridge HS) went 3 for 4 with two RBIs and a run scored.

The Aztecs will get back to ACCAC conference play on Tuesday when they play at Central Arizona College in a doubleheader. The games will be at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.
