Alfonso wins 10th game as softball splits at Arizona Western

The Pima Community College softball team (20-6, 15-5 in ACCAC) split at Arizona Western College on Tuesday.

Game 1: Pima CC Aztecs 7, Arizona Western College Matadors 1

Alexis Alfonso (Canyon del Oro HS) picked up her 10th win of the season as the Aztecs won the first game 7-1. Alfonso pitched a complete-game giving up one run (one earned) on two hits with three strikeouts and no walks.

The offense came up big early as they scored five runs in the 1st inning and finished the game with 16 hits. Christine Olivas (Hamilton HS) went 3 for 4 with two RBIs while Araceli Peralta (Tucson Magnet HS) finished 3 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored. Taylor Fabing was 2 for 5 with two runs scored and an RBI and Alexis Ayala (Sunnyside HS) finished 3 for 4 with an RBI and a double.

Game 2: Arizona Western College Matadors 12, Pima CC Aztecs 2 (5 innings)

The Aztecs gave up seven runs in the 2nd inning and three runs in the 5th inning as the Aztecs dropped the second game 12-2 in five innings. Pima scored their runs in the 3rd and 4th innings. Ayala and Alyssa Montoya scored the runs. Ayala went 1 for 2 with a run scored and Sierra Cuestas (Marana HS) finished 1 for 2 with an RBI. Odalis Orduno (Desert View HS) took the loss (6-2).

The Aztecs will play at Scottsdale Community College on Thursday in a conference doubleheader. The first game will start at noon.
