Alfonso homers and earns win as softball splits at Yavapai

The Pima Community College softball team (27-7, 22-6 in ACCAC) won its seventh straight game but lost in the second game of the doubleheader at Yavapai College.

Game 1: Pima CC Aztecs 3, Yavapai College Roughriders 1

The Aztecs fell behind after the 1^st inning but came back to beat Yavapai 3-1 in the first game. Alexis Alfonso (Canyon del Oro HS) earned the win improving her record to 15-2 as she pitched a complete-game giving up one run (one earned) on five hits with four strikeouts and one walk.

Alfonso tied the game in the 2^nd inning when she hit a solo home run. Taylor Fabing gave the Aztecs the lead with her RBI that scored Christine Olivas (Hamilton HS). Kalynn Martinez (Sunnyside HS) also had an RBI in the 3^rd inning. Olivas scored two runs and drew a walk for the game. Araceli Peralta (Tucson Magnet HS) finished 2 for 4 with a double.

Game 2: Yavapai College Roughriders 4, Pima CC Aztecs 2

The Aztecs had their seven-game winning streak snapped after dropping the second game 4-2. Odalis Orduno (Desert View HS) took the loss (8-3). She pitched a complete-game and gave up four runs (one earned) on five hits with seven strikeouts.

Pima fell behind 3-1 after the 5^th inning and scored one run in the 6^th but the rally was cut short. Alexis Ayala (Sunnyside HS) went 2 for 3 with an RBI and a double while Olivas was 1 for 2 with an RBI and a double. Jackie Hernandez (Desert Ridge HS) finished the game 2 for 4 with a run scored.

The Aztecs will play at Mesa Community College on Saturday in a conference doubleheader. The games will be at noon and 2:00 p.m.
