Cuestas and Fabing lead charge as softball sweeps South Mountain

The No. 10 ranked Pima Community College softball team (31-9, 26-8 in ACCAC) scored 21 runs in its doubleheader sweep against South Mountain Community College on Saturday at the West Campus.

Sierra Cuestas (Marana HS) finished the day 4 for 6 with six RBIs and three runs scored while Taylor Fabing went 3 for 5 with five RBIs and two runs scored. Alexis Alfonso (Canyon del Oro HS) picked up two wins on the mound and improved her record to 19-3.

Game 1: Pima CC Aztecs 11, South Mountain CC Cougars 3 (6 innings):

Cuestas had a bases clearing three-run RBI hit and a solo home run as the Aztecs won the first game 11-3. Fabing added a two-run homer in Pima's six-run 4th inning to help seal the win. Cuestas was 2 for 3 with four RBIs and two runs scored while Fabing was 2 for 2 with three RBIs and a run scored. Fabing also had a sac-fly RBI to tie the game at 3-3 in the 3rd inning. Araceli Peralta (Tucson Magnet HS) had an RBI single in the 2nd inning and went 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored. Jackie Hernandez was 3 for 4 with an RBI single in the 4th and two runs scored.

Alfonso picked up her 18th win after she gave up three runs (two earned) on six hits with six strikeouts and two walks.

Game 2: Pima CC Aztecs 10, South Mountain CC Cougars 2 (5 innings)

Fabing and Cuestas each had another two RBIs in Pima's 10-2 win in the second game. The Aztecs scored five runs in the 2nd inning and four in the 4th to help seal it. Cuestas hit an RBI single in the 2nd inning and an RBI double in the 4th. Fabing added a two-run homer in the 4th. Christine Olivas (Hamilton HS) ended the game with a solo shot to center field in the 5th inning. Cuestas was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and a run scored while Fabing finished 1 for 3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Olivas was 1 for 2 with two RBIs. Kalynn Martinez (Sunnyside HS) was 3 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored while Alexis Ayala (Sunnyside HS) went 2 for 2 with an RBI triple in the 4th and a run scored.

Alfonso got her 19th win as she gave up two runs (one earned) on seven hits with one strikeout.

The Aztecs will play at No. 2 ranked Phoenix College in an ACCAC Conference doubleheader on Tuesday. Games will be at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.
