Aztecs Softball Scores 22 Runs in Doubleheader Sweep at Glendale CC

The Pima Community College softball team (9-5, 6-2 in ACCAC) secured its third straight conference sweep on the road on Saturday as they took two games at Glendale Community College (4-6, 3-5).  

Freshman Courtney Brown (Flowing Wells HS) continued her dominant offensive performance in the first game and got her ninth straight hit in the second game.

Game 1: Pima CC Aztecs 15, Glendale CC Gauchos 1 (5 innings)

The No. 9 ranked Aztecs' offense went on a tear as they scored 10 runs in the top of the 5th inning for the run-rule victory. Brown (Flowing Wells HS) and Gabriella Gorosave were flawless at the plate.

Brown, who was named ACCAC Division II Player of the Week, finished 4 for 4 with three RBIs, three runs scored, two doubles and two stolen bases. She hit a two-run RBI double in the 2nd inning and an RBI single in the 5th. Gorosave also went 4 for 4 with four runs scored and an RBI double in the 5th inning.

Freshmen Alexa Delgado (Sahuarita HS) hit a two-run RBI double as part of the 5th inning. Margarita Corona (Tucson Magnet HS), and Bailey Critchlow each had RBI singles in the 5th inning. Corona was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and a run scored while sophomore Araceli Peralta (Tucson Magnet HS) finished 3 for 4 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Sophomore Odalis Orduno (Desert View HS) picked up the win (4-2) after she pitched four innings, giving up one run (one earned) on four hits with three strikeouts and one walk. Freshman Luisa Silvain pitched a scoreless 5th inning.

Game 2: Pima CC Aztecs 7, Glendale CC Gauchos 5

Critchlow and fellow freshman Gabriela Trejo (Desert View HS) showcased their power to give the offense a boost. Critchlow hit a two-run home run in the 3rd inning to increase Pima's lead to 4-1. In the 6th inning, Trejo jacked a two-run homer to make it 6-2.

Brown had her ninth straight hit with a leadoff single but finished the game 1 for 4 with a run scored. Trejo finished the game 2 for 3 with two RBIs and a run scored while Crichlow went 1 for 3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Peralta was 2 for 3 with a run scored.

The Gauchos scored three runs in the 6th inning but Silvain got the save after getting the final four batters out. Crichlow started and picked up the win (5-2) after she went five and one-third innings giving up five runs (five earned) on eight hits with one strikeout and two walks.

The Aztecs will be back at the West Campus on Tuesday when they host a conference doubleheader against South Mountain Community College. The games will be at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.
