Corona Has 4 RBIs as Softball Earns Sweep at Paradise Valley

The Pima Community College softball team (13-7, 10-4 in ACCAC) bounced back on Tuesday after it earned an ACCAC doubleheader sweep at Paradise Valley Community College (1-9, 1-9).

Freshman Margarita Corona (Tucson Magnet HS) finished the day 3 for 4 with four RBIs and four runs scored.

Game 1: Pima CC Aztecs 10, Paradise Valley CC Pumas 1 (5 innings)

The No. 9 ranked Aztecs scored five runs in the 1st and 2nd innings to take control of the game. Sophomore Araceli Peralta hit a two-run RBI single in the 1st inning to score Corona and freshman Larissa Rodriguez (Tucson Magnet HS) to make it 4-0. In the 2nd inning, Corona hit a two-run RBI double to plate freshmen Courtney Brown (Flowing Wells HS) and Bailey Critchlow. Rodriguez also had RBI singles in each of the two innings.

Corona was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs scored while Rodriguez and Peralta each finished 2 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Brown went 2 for 2 with two runs scored and freshman Bailey Pavelich (Cienega HS) was 2 for 2 with an RBI. The Aztecs finished with 14 hits.

Sophomore Odalis Orduno (Desert View HS) picked up the win (6-3) as she pitched three innings giving up two hits with four strikeouts.

Game 2: Pima CC Aztecs 11, Paradise Valley CC Pumas 1 (5 innings)

The Aztecs produced another 11 hits and showed patience at the plate in the second game win.

Corona hit a two-run homer in the 3rd inning to score Critchlow to make it 3-0. Freshmen Gabriela Trejo (Desert View HS), Amy Pacheco (Sahuaro HS) and Peralta drew three straight bases-loaded walks as the Aztecs scored seven runs in the 4th inning. They finished the game with six walks.

Corona finished 1 for 1 with two RBIs, two runs scored and two walks. Sophomore Kalynn Martinez (Sunnyside HS) went 3 for 4 with two RBIs while Critchlow finished 2 for 3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Pacheco was 2 for 2 with an RBI.

Crichlow picked up the win on the mound (7-3) after she went three innings giving up one hit with one strikeout and two walks.

The Aztecs will play three games in the El Paso CC Invitational on Saturday. They'll play Dodge City Community (KS) at 9:15 a.m., then Pratt Community College (KS) at 11:30 a.m. and close it out against host El Paso Community College at 4:00 p.m.
