Pitcher Orduno Gets 10th Win as Aztecs Softball Splits Against Chandler-Gilbert CC

The Pima Community College softball team (24-9, 14-6 in ACCAC) split an ACCAC doubleheader on Tuesday at Chandler-Gilbert Community College (3-21, 3-21).

Sophomore pitcher Odalis Orduno (Desert View HS) earned her 10th win of the season. Fellow sophomore Araceli Peralta (Tucson Magnet HS) finished 3-for-6 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Game 1: Pima CC Aztecs 9, Chandler-Gilbert CC Coyotes 1

The No. 6 ranked Aztecs took control in the late innings with four runs in the sixth inning and two in the seventh inning.

Freshman Margarita Corona (Tucson Magnet HS) got the Aztecs on the board in the third inning with a two-run RBI double. Peralta hit a groundout RBI to put Pima up 3-0.

Freshmen Alexa Delgado (Sahuarita HS) and Bailey Critchlow hit RBI singles in the sixth inning. Freshmen Gabriela Trejo (Desert View HS) and Courtney Brown (Flowing Wells HS) also contributed with RBI singles in the seventh.

Corona finished the game 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored while Peralta went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Brown was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored and Critchlow went 2-for-2 with an RBI, a run scored and two walks.

Orduno (10-4) pitched a complete-game giving up one run (none earned) on five hits with one strikeout and no walks.

Game 2: Chandler-Gilbert CC Coyotes 5, Pima CC Aztecs 4

The Aztecs trailed 4-0 after the first two innings but came back. Peralta hit an RBI single and sophomore Christine Olivas (Hamilton HS) hit a sacrifice-fly RBI. In the sixth inning, Peralta hit a sacrifice-fly RBI and Critchlow hit an RBI single to tie the game at 4-4. The Coyotes scored a run in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead for good.

Peralta finished the game 1-for-3 with two RBIs while Olivas went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Brown was 1-for-2 with a run scored and two walks and Critchlow finished 1-for-3 with an RBI and a walk.

Critchlow dropped to 12-4 on the year as she pitched six innings giving up five runs (four earned) on nine hits with one strikeout.

The Aztecs will be back at the West Campus on Saturday when they host Scottsdale Community College in an ACCAC doubleheader. The games are at noon and 2:00 p.m.
