Aztecs Softball Drops Doubleheader at Yavapai College

The Pima Community College softball team (28-11, 16-8 in ACCAC) dropped an ACCAC doubleheader on the road at Yavapai College (28-10, 20-8) on Tuesday.

The Aztecs were shutout in the first game and were forced to play catch-up in the second game.

Game 1: Yavapai College Roughriders 2, Pima CC Aztecs 0

The Aztecs managed three hits in the first game. Freshman Margarita Corona (Tucson Magnet HS), and sophomores Christine Olivas (Hamilton HS) and Kalynn Martinez (Sunnyside HS) each went 1 for 3 for the game.

Sophomore pitcher Odalis Orduno (Desert View HS) took the loss (12-5) as she pitched six innings giving up two runs (one earned) on seven hits.

Game 2: Yavapai College Roughriders 13, Pima CC Aztecs 7

The Aztecs surrendered six runs in the second inning and played catch-up the rest of the game. Pima scored four runs in the fourth inning and three-runs in the fifth to cut Yavapai's lead to 9-7. The Roughriders responded with one-run in the fifth and three runs in the sixth inning.

Freshman Alexa Delgado (Sahuarita HS) hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning and finished the game 2 for 4 with two RBIs and a run scored.

Martinez went 3 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Sophomore Araceli Peralta (Tucson Magnet HS) was 3 for 4 with two RBIs while freshman Courtney Brown (Flowing Wells HS) finished 2 for 5 with an RBI and a run scored.

Freshman pitcher Bailey Critchlow struggled on the mound as she took the loss (13-5). She pitched one and two-third innings giving up seven runs (six earned) on seven hits.

The Aztecs will be back at the West Campus on Saturday when they host an ACCAC doubleheader against Mesa Community College. The games will be at noon and 2:00 p.m.
