Brown's Game-Winning RBI and Orduno's Shutout Lead Softball Passed Paradise Valley

The Pima Community College softball team (35-15, 23-12 in ACCAC) earned an ACCAC conference doubleheader sweep at the West Campus on Saturday against Paradise Valley Community College (9-27, 9-27).

The offense carried the No. 18 ranked Aztecs in the first game but sophomore Odalis Orduno (Desert View HS) led the way in the second game. Freshman Courtney Brown (Flowing Wells HS) finished the day 4 for 5 with five runs scored.

Game 1: Pima CC Aztecs 11, Paradise Valley CC Pumas 10 (8 innings)

Brown hit a sacrifice-fly RBI to left field and freshman Larissa Rodriguez (Tucson Magnet HS) tagged in the bottom of the eighth to give the Aztecs the win.

The Pumas took a 4-0 lead after the top of the first inning but the Aztecs scored in each of the first five innings. Down 4-2 in the second inning, sophomore Christine Olivas (Tucson Magnet HS) had her second RBI hit of the game and fellow sophomore Araceli Peralta (Tucson Magnet HS) tied the game at 4-4 with her run. Freshman Gabriella Gorosave hit an RBI double in the third inning to give the Aztecs the lead at 5-4.

The Aztecs went up 10-4 after the fifth inning but the Pumas struck with six runs in the top of the seventh to force extra innings at 10-10.

Olivas finished 3 for 4 with three RBIs, a run scored and two doubles. Freshman Gabriel Trejo (Desert View HS) was 2 for 5 with three RBIs and a run scored. Brown went 2 for 2 with three runs scored and an RBI while Peralta was 1 for 4 with three runs scored.

Freshman Luisa Silvain (Cholla HS) picked up the win in relief and improved to 4-1. She threw the final one and two third innings giving up two hits with one walk. Freshman Bailey Critchlow starts and went six and one-third innings giving up 10 runs (seven earned) on nine hits with one strikeout and two walks.

Game 2: Pima CC Aztecs 4, Paradise Valley CC Pumas 0

Orduno threw a complete game shutout as she gave up five hits with four strikeouts and no walks. She improved to 15-7 on the season.

The Aztecs got on the scoreboard in the fourth inning when Critchlow hit a groundout RBI that plated Brown. Pima used quick base running to score twice in the fifth inning. Sophomore Kalynn Martinez (Sunnyside HS) scored on a passed ball and Brown used her speed to jet around third and made it to home plate on a Paradise Valley miscue. Martinez hit an RBI single to plate pinch runner Mary Tom (Mountain View HS) in the sixth.

Brown was 2 for 3 with two runs scored while Martinez finished 1 for 2 with an RBI and a run scored.

The Aztecs will play at GateWay Community College on Thursday in an ACCAC doubleheader. The games are at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.
