Aztecs softball continues streak, rolls passed Glendale CC

The Pima Community College softball team (25-12, 19-9 in ACCAC) earned its fourth straight ACCAC conference sweep on Tuesday as it won a doubleheader at Glendale Community College (7-23, 6-22).

Sophomore Bailey Critchlow went 4 for 6 on the day with five runs scored while fellow sophomore Margarita Corona (Tucson HS) was 3 for 7 with four RBIs and four runs scored. Critchlow and freshman Mandy Lorenson (Ironwood Ridge HS) earned wins on the mound.

Game 1: Pima CC Aztecs 6, Glendale CC Gauchos 1: Critchlow threw a complete-game giving up one run (none earned) on eight hits with four strikeouts. She picked up the win and is now 12-5 on the season.

The offense did the rest as freshman Megan Flores (Salpointe Catholic HS) hit RBI singles in the first and third innings as well as a sacrifice-fly RBI in the fifth. She finished the game 2 for 3 with three RBIs. Corona hit an RBI double in the third inning as she went 2 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Crichlow finished 2 for 3 with three runs scored.

Game 2: Pima CC Aztecs 20, Glendale CC Gauchos 0 (5 innings): The Aztecs took an early 2-0 lead after the first inning but poured it on with seven runs in the third inning and 11 runs in the fourth to earn the mercy-rule victory.

Sophomore Larissa Rodriguez (Tucson HS) hit a two-run RBI single in the third inning as freshman Alyse Talamante contributed with an RBI single.

In the fourth inning, Corona hit a grand slam for her 10th home run of the season. Talamante and freshman Edith Prieto (Sunnyside HS) each hit two-run RBI doubles.

Talamante finished 4 for 4 with three RBIs and three runs scored while Corona went 1 for 3 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Prieto was 3 for 4 with four RBIs and three runs scored. Sophomore Gabriela Trejo (Desert View HS) went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs scored and Critchlow finished 2 for 3 with two runs scored.

Lorenson (7-3) picked the win as she pitched three innings giving up two hits with three strikeouts and one walk. Freshman Hannah Wood pitched two innings in relief giving up one hit with one strikeout.

The Aztecs will be back at the West Campus on Saturday when they host Mesa Community College in an ACCAC conference doubleheader. The games will be at noon and 2:00 p.m.
