Brown scores three runs as Aztecs softball splits at Eastern Arizona College

The Pima Community College softball team (30-17, 24-14 in ACCAC) split with Eastern Arizona College (30-15, 24-12) on Saturday in Thatcher as the Aztecs played in its fourth straight road doubleheader.

The Aztecs put on an offensive clinic in the first game but couldn't find their rhythm in the second game.

Game 1: Pima CC Aztecs 14, Eastern Arizona College Gila Monsters 6 (5 innings): Freshman Megan Flores (Salpointe Catholic HS) hit a three-run RBI double as part of an eight-run third inning.

Freshman Edith Prieto (Sunnyside HS), as well as sophomores Courtney Brown (Flowing Wells HS) and Gabriela Trejo (Desert View HS) each hit RBI singles in the inning. Sophomore Gabriella Gorosave contributed with an RBI double.

Flores finished 2 for 3 with three RBIs and a run scored while Gorosave finished 3 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. She also hit two doubles in the game. Trejo went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and a run scored and Brown was 2 for 2 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Freshman Mandy Lorenson (Ironwood Ridge HS) won her 10th game of the year (10-5) as she pitched all five innings giving up six runs (six earned) on six hits with three strikeouts and six walks.

Game 2: Eastern Arizona College Gila Monsters 9, Pima CC Aztecs 1 (6 innings): The Aztecs led much of the game but the Gila Monsters' offense took control in the later innings.

The Aztecs took a 1-0 lead with a run by Brown but Eastern Arizona scored two runs in the sixth inning and closed it out with seven runs in the sixth.

The Aztecs managed just four hits for the game. Brown and sophomore Mary Tom (Mountain View HS) went 1 for 3 while Trejo and Prieto finished 1 for 2.

Sophomore Luisa Silvain (Cholla HS) mowed through Eastern Arizona's offense for five innings but gave up six runs (six earned) on 11 hits with five walks. Freshman Hannah Wood pitched the final two-thirds of the sixth giving up three runs (one earned) on two hits with one walk.

The Aztecs will play their fifth straight road ACCAC doubleheader on Tuesday at Scottsdale Community College. The games will be at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.
