Marx has four hits and six RBIs; Zepeda, Asher and Zylinski-Wrobel homer as Softball scores 29 runs in sweep over Miles CC

The Pima Community College softball team (11-8) brought the bats out as it played a non-conference doubleheader against Miles Community College (3-5) on Monday as part of the TIG Invitational at Lincoln Park.
The Aztecs scored 29 runs and earned two run-rule victories. Freshman Aubrey Marx (Cienega HS) finished the day going 4 for 7 with six RBIs, four runs scored and two doubles. Sophomore Mina Chacon also finished the day at 4 for 7 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Sophomore Gabriella Salazar (Marana HS) was 3 for 5 with four runs scored and an RBI. Sophomores Camilla Zepeda (Tucson Magnet HS), Mallory Zylinski-Wrobel (Sahuarita HS) and freshman Mari Asher (Canyon del Oro HS) all went yard.

  • Game 1: Pima CC Aztecs 12, Miles CC Pioneers 3 (5 innings): The Aztecs broke the game open with 11 runs in the 3rd inning.
    Zepeda tied the game at 3-3 with a two-run RBI single driving in freshman Alyssa Lopez (Sunnyside HS) and Salazar. Chacon put the Aztecs ahead for good with her first RBI single of the inning to plate Marx. Up 8-3, Marx brought in two more runs with an RBI double to make it 10-3. Chacon capped off the inning with an RBI single scoring Marx for the second time.
    Zepeda hit a solo home run in the 1st inning to put the Aztecs on the board as she was a perfect 3 for 3 with four RBIs and two runs scored.
    Marx finished 2 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs scored while Chacon went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and a run. Salazar was 1 for 1 with an RBI, two runs and two walks and Lopez finished 1 for 1 with two runs and a walk.
    Freshman Jesse Gonzalez (Willcox HS) picked up the win in relief as she went four and one-third innings, giving up one hit with one strikeouts and five walks.

  • Game 2: Pima CC Aztecs 17, Miles CC Pioneers 4 (5 innings): The Aztecs broke open a tie game with 15 runs in the top of 4th inning to take control and earn their second mercy-rule win.
    Asher set the tone with a lead-off triple and was driven in by freshman Cheyanne Ortiz (Tucson Magnet HS) to give Pima a 3-2 lead. Marx hit a two-run RBI double as she brought around sophomore Jasmine Majonica (Flowing Wells HS) and Salazar to make it 5-2.
    Asher kept the rally going with a three-run homer to left field bringing around freshman Alyssa Noriega (Pueblo HS) and Chacon to put the score at 10-2. Marx drove in another two runs with an RBI single as the score stood at 13-2. Two batters later, Zylinski-Wrobel capped off the inning with a grand slam scoring freshman Talia Martin (Mountain View HS), Marx and Noriega.
    Marx finished the game 2 for 4 with four RBIs and two runs scored while Asher went 2 for 4 with three RBIs and two runs. Zylinski-Wrobel was 1 for 3 with five RBIs and a run. Chacon hit an RBI single in the 1st inning and finished 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run. Martin had an RBI single in the 2nd inning as she closed out the game at 1 for 2 with two RBIs and two runs. Ortiz and Salazar each had two hits and two runs scored.
    Freshman Yanelyssia Chavez (Salpointe Catholic HS) picked up the win as she pitched five innings, giving up four runs (one earned) on six hits with six strikeouts and three walks.

The Aztecs will get back to ACCAC conference play on Tuesday when they play at South Mountain Community College. First game starts at 1:00 p.m.
