Five score in double figures as Aztecs women's basketball dominate Tohono O'odham CC

The Pima Community College women's basketball team (6-1, 1-0 in ACCAC) opened ACCAC conference play on Tuesday with a dominating win at the West Campus gymnasium.

The No. 1 ranked Aztecs took control early in the first quarter and didn't let up as they defeated Tohono O'odham Community College (2-4, 0-1) 88-51.

The Aztecs started the game on a 9-0 run and led 21-7 after the opening quarter. Sophomore Sydni Stallworth (Palo Verde HS) hit a pair of three-pointers and fellow sophomore Bree Cates' basket capped off an 11-0 run in the second quarter to make it 32-7. The Aztecs continued to pour it on as they went on a 12-0 run in the third quarter to lead 65-27.

Stallworth finished the game with a team-high 19 points as she went 4 for 7 from three-point range and also contributed with four assists. Freshman Izzy Spruit (Mesquite HS) got the start as she scored 13 points and 3 for 6 from the three-point stripe. She also had three steals and two assists.

Cates had 10 points while freshman Katey Roquemore and sophomore Bailey Johnson (Tucson Magnet HS) each scored 10 points off the bench.

The Aztecs outrebounded the Jegos 54-29 for the game which included 22-5 on the offensive glass.

The Aztecs play their first conference game on the road next Wednesday, Nov. 30 against Chandler-Gilbert Community College. The game will start at 5:30 p.m.
