Peterson produces double-double as Aztecs women's basketball burn Glendale CC

The Pima Community College women's basketball team (17-4, 11-3 in ACCAC) held a double digit for most of its game at Glendale Community College on Wednesday.

The No. 3 ranked Aztecs went on to beat the Gauchos (8-13, 4-10) 89-52 winning their fourth straight game and six of their last seven.

The Aztecs took a 22-9 lead after the first quarter and led 34-22 at halftime. They went on to outscore the Gauchos 55-30 for the second half. The Aztecs finished the game with 10 3-pointers.

Sophomore Denesia Smith (Cienega HS) had a team-high 18 points and also had five rebounds and five steals. Fellow sophomore Erin Peterson (Catalina Foothills HS) finished with a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Sophomore Bailey Johnson (Tucson HS) and freshman Izzy Spruit (Mesquite HS) each contributed with nine points off the bench.

The Aztecs earned the regular season sweep against Glendale. Pima won 71-54 at the West Campus last month.

The Aztecs will be back on the road on Saturday when they play Division I team Eastern Arizona College in Thatcher. The game starts at 5:30 p.m.
