Aztecs Women's Basketball uses fast start to overwhelm Central Arizona College

The Pima Community College women's basketball team (6-1, 3-0 in ACCAC) took advantage of Central Arizona College's slow start and picked up the win on Wednesday at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium.
- The No. 14 ranked (Division II) Aztecs defeated the Vaqueras (Division I) 76-60 after outscoring them 14-1 in the first quarter and taking a 33-14 lead at the break.
- The Vaqueras missed their first 18 shots of the game and scored their first field goal at the 8:11 mark in the second quarter.
- The Aztecs started the third quarter on a 15-6 run in the first four minutes to make it 48-20. The Aztecs led 61-34.
- The Vaqueras started off the fourth quarter on a 9-0 run but the Aztecs held on to their double-digit lead to close it out.
- Sophomore Dominque Acosta (Nogales HS) scored a team-high 19 points after she went 9 for 10 from the field. She also grabbed three rebounds.
- Freshman Rylei Waugh scored 18 points to go along with six rebounds, seven assists and two steals.
- Sophomore Jordan Joe went 7 for 10 from the field and scored 14 points off the bench.
- Freshman Rori Hoffmeyer (Cibola HS) posted a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds. She was 4 for 5 from the field.
- Freshman Gabby Lopez (Bisbee HS) was dominant under the glass as she finished with 17 rebounds (seven offensive) to go along with four points and three assists. The Aztecs out-rebounded the Vaqueras 63-36 for the game.
The Aztecs will play at rival and No. 4 ranked Mesa Community College on Saturday. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
