Six score in double figures as Women's Basketball doubles up Phoenix College for eighth straight win

The No. 12 ranked Aztecs Women's Basketball team picked up their eighth straight win after beating Phoenix College 100-50. The Aztecs had six players score in double figures as freshman Rori Hoffmeyer (Cibola HS) had a double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds while freshman Annalise Holthaus (Ironwood Ridge HS) had 10 points off the bench. The Pima Community College women's basketball team (20-6, 15-4 in ACCAC) secured its eighth straight 20-plus win season (excluding 2020-21 covid season) on Wednesday against Phoenix College (5-20, 4-15) at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium.

  • The No. 12 ranked Aztecs outscored the Bears in every quarter in their 100-50 win earning their eighth straight victory.
  • The Aztecs held the Bears scoreless for the first seven minutes of the game and took a 21-4 lead after the first quarter. Pima led 44-20 at halftime.
  • They started the third quarter on a 18-6 run and held a 76-32 lead heading into the fourth. Pima went on to outscore Phoenix College 32-12 in the third quarter.
  • The Aztecs had six players score in double figures. Sophomore Dominique Acosta (Nogales HS) led the way with 16 points to go with nine rebounds (six offensive). She went 6 for 9 from the field.
  • Freshman Rori Hoffmeyer (Cibola HS) was a flawless 4 for 4 from the field and posted a double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds. She also added four assists.
  • Freshman Rylei Waugh went for 12 points, eight assists and three rebounds while sophomore Jordan Joe posted 12 points after going 5 for 8 from the field and 2 for 3 from three-point range.
  • Freshman Amelie Buffill-Gutierrez (Sabino HS) closed out the game with 11 points and fellow freshman Annalise Holthaus (Ironwood Ridge HS) contributed with 10 points off the bench after she finished 5 for 5 from the field.

The Aztecs will play their fourth straight home game on Saturday when they go up against Glendale Community College. Tipoff is set for 2:00 p.m.
