The Pima Community College women's soccer team (19-1-2) is heading back to the NJCAA National Tournament after the Aztecs claimed its second straight Region I, Division I/District A Championship.
The No. 1 seeded Aztecs defeated No. 2 Paradise Valley Community College 2-1 and will play in Melbourne, FL from Nov. 16-21.
The Aztecs got on the board when sophomore Devyn Hunley (Sabino HS) hit a shot from 20 yards out in the 11th minute with an assist from sophomore Alyssa O'Connell (Empire HS). The Aztecs led 1-0 at halftime.
Freshman Maria Mata (Desert View HS) scored her goal 15 minutes into the second half to give the Aztecs a bit of a cushion at 2-0. Freshman Alexis Aguirre had the assist. Paradise Valley cut into Pima's lead with a goal by Megan Schulze in the 79th minute.
Hunley was named Most Valuable Player of the Region I, Division I/District A tournament.
The Aztecs secured another full year of being undefeated at Kino Sports Complex and only gave up one goal in their last six games.
