Hernandez and Jones Help Lead Women's Soccer in Shutout Win vs. Glendale

The Pima Community College women's soccer team (5-3, 5-3 in ACCAC) protected its home field as it earned a shutout victory against Glendale Community College (3-4, 3-4) on Tuesday at the Kino North Grandstand.

The Aztecs blanked the Gauchos 2-0 scoring a goal in each half.

The Aztecs got on the board when freshman Alexis Hernandez (Ironwood Ridge HS) scored on some great ball movement and a double assist from sophomores Maury Urcadez (Tucson Magnet HS) and Sonia Garcia (Sabino HS) in the 12th minute.

Sophomore Destiny Jones (Canyon del Oro HS) tacked on an insurance goal in the 56th minute when she scored on a penalty kick. Sophomore Alexis Aguirre (Nogales HS) was fouled inside the box to set up the goal.

The Aztecs produced its fourth shutout win of the season. They held the Gauchos to four shots on goal for the game. Sophomore Daniela Sanchez (Sabino HS) and freshman Tara Kase (Buena HS) each finished with one save.

The Aztecs are off until Tuesday, Sept. 20 when they play at Mesa Community College at 7:00 p.m.
