The Pima Community College women's soccer team (1-0, 1-0 in ACCAC) opened the 2024 season on Sunday and picked up a tight win at Scottsdale Community College (0-1-1, 0-1-1).
- The Aztecs struck first and broke up a tie game in the first half to beat the Artichokes 2-1.
- Freshman Marissa Garate (Tucson Magnet HS) scored the eventual game-winning goal off a corner kick in the 35th minute with an assist from freshman Kristal Navarro (Tucson Magnet HS).
- Freshman Samantha Mendez (Tucson Magnet HS) put the Aztecs on the scoreboard with a free kick shot from 30 yards out in the 16th minute.
- Elizabeth Wheeler tied the game 18 seconds later for the Artichokes.
- The Aztecs managed four shots on goal for the game. Freshman Brooke Valencia (Sabino HS) finished the game with 10 saves.
The Aztecs will play at Chandler-Gilbert Community College on Tuesday at 8:00 p.m.
