Ava Dagnino and Ashley Martinez each net two goals as Women's Soccer shuts out GateWay CC
The Pima Community College women's soccer team (7-1-5, 7-0-3 in ACCAC) closed out a busy week on Friday against GateWay Community College (0-11, 0-10) in Phoenix.
- The No. 10 ranked Aztecs, who were playing their fourth game in a week, defeated the Geckos 8-0. It was their fourth shutout victory of the season. Pima went 2-0-2 in the last week.
- Freshman Ava Dagnino (Salpointe Catholic HS) scored two goals, putting her total at nine for the season. She put Pima on the board in the 6th minute with an assist from sophomore Emma Beach (Ironwood Ridge HS) and sealed the game with the final goal of the game in the 88th minute.
- Sophomore Ashley Martinez (Sunnyside HS) netted two goals that were one minute apart. She made it 2-0 with an assist from freshman Karina Tapia (Sabino HS) in the 15th minute and found the back of the net again with an assist from sophomore Samantha Mendez (Tucson Magnet HS) to put it at 3-0.
- Freshman Yajaira Cervantes (Tucson Magnet HS) contributed with her goal in the 52nd minute to give Pima a 5-0 advantage. She also shared the wealth as she assisted in sophomore Dameris Canto's (Sahuaro HS) goal in the 59th minute and freshman Anaya Guadian's (Casa Grande Union HS) score in the 63rd.
- Sophomore Kristal Navarro (Tucson Magnet HS) capped off the first half with her goal in the 39th minute as the Aztecs scored four goals in each half.
- The Aztecs finished with a season-high 37 shots on goal while holding the Geckos to two shots for the game. Sophomore Brooke Valencia (Sabino HS) closed out the game with two saves.
The Aztecs will be back on the road on Tuesday when they play at Glendale Community College. Game time is set for 4:45 p.m.
