Houk earns two wins to advance to consolation finals at NJCAA National Tourney

The Pima Community College women's tennis team had one singles and two doubles teams advance in their respected consolation flights on Tuesday after the third day of the NJCAA Division I Tournament.

Freshman Meghan Houk (Corona del Sol HS) earned two victories in the No. 3 singles consolation bracket. She beat Ashton Tewell from Lewis & Clark Community College (IL) 8-1 in the quarterfinals and shut out Julie Pruneda from Waubonsee Community College (IL) 8-0 in the semifinals.

Two of the doubles teams also advanced to the semifinals in their consolation brackets. The No. 2 doubles team of Houk and sophomore Lien Nguyen defeated Ashlynn Miller and Kasey Steward from Jacksonville (TX) 8-1.

The No. 3 doubles duo of Ashley Fitzsimmons (Walden Grove HS) and Jayme Shafer (Tucson HS) won a tie-breaker over Ksenija Dmitrovic and Thamires Lima from Barton Community College (KS) 9-8 (6) to advance.

Freshman Ashley Fitzsimmons (Walden Grove HS) fell in her No. 5 singles flight quarterfinal match to No. 2 ranked Shaylee Syme from Hillsborough (FL) 6-0, 6-0.

The Aztecs continue competition on Thursday at the Waco Regional Tennis and Fitness Center in Waco, TX. Here is a list of Pima's matches on Wednesday:
