Nesbitt has 12 kills as Aztecs volleyball win tie-breaker against Phoenix College

The Pima Community College volleyball team (3-3, 1-1 in ACCAC) had to fight for its first regular season conference win on Wednesday at the West Campus gymnasium.

The Aztecs defeated Phoenix College in five games 25-17, 19-25, 25-20, 20-25, 15-10.

Up 6-4 in the fifth set tie-breaker, the Aztecs opened up more of a cushion after Brooklyn Scarborough (Thatcher HS), Victoria Davis (Sahuaro HS) and Kristin Baldwin (Thatcher HS) each had kills making it 10-5. Baldwin also had a block for a Pima point. Phoenix College never got closer than three points. A kill by Davis and an ace by Arisa Chavez put the match to rest.

Whitney Nesbitt (Cienega HS) finished the match with 12 kills and five blocks while Scarborough had 11 kills and 13 digs. Baldwin contributed with eight kills and 13 blocks. Miranda Bingham (Safford HS) had 46 assists and 17 digs and Angel Chavez (Mingus Union HS) had 27 digs.

The Aztecs will be back at the West Campus gymnasium on Friday when they host Eastern Arizona College at 7:00 p.m.
