Aztecs Volleyball Rally Falls Short Against (2) Glendale CC

The Pima Community College volleyball team (8-7, 2-3 in ACCAC) fell short for the second straight match as the Aztecs lost to No. 2 ranked Glendale Community College on Friday at the West Campus.

The Aztecs lost in four sets 28-26, 25-20, 21-25, 25-15 as their rally was cut short. Pima held a lead for much of the first set and at one point had a 17-11 advantage but Glendale chipped away and tied at 24-24. The Aztecs had set-point on two occasions but lost a tough opening game. Pima trailed for much of the second set and got as close as four points but lost to fall behind 2-0 in the match.

In the third set, the Aztecs held a slim lead throughout. Up 20-18, Brooklyn Scarborough (Thatcher HS) gave the Aztecs a bit of a cushion after she had a kill and a block to make it 22-18. Kristin Baldwin (Thatcher HS) had a kill and Jamie Holliday (Sahuaro HS) had a block to seal the third set win. Glendale took control of the fourth set to close it out.

Holliday finished the match with 16 kills and 15 digs while Scarborough had 13 kills and 13 digs. Miranda Bingham (Safford HS) had 50 assists and 17 digs and Arisa Chavez contributed with six kills, 14 digs and eight blocks.

The Aztecs will play at Central Arizona College in Coolidge, AZ on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
