Aztecs Volleyball snags first set but fall in four games to No. 1 Scottsdale CC

The Pima Community College volleyball team (10-16, 6-8 in ACCAC) faced a tough test on Friday as it hosted Scottsdale Community College (19-0, 14-0) at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium.

  • The Aztecs shocked the No. 1 ranked Artichokes by winning the first set, but Scottsdale rallied to win the next three games to take the match in four sets (21-25, 25-10, 25-11, 25-15). It was only the seventh set the Artichokes have lost all season.
  • Freshman Kenna Simon led the Aztecs with 12 kills. Sophomore Abby Whatton (Canyon del Oro HS) closed out the match with nine kills while sophomore Bekah O'Day (Skyline HS) finished with six kills.
  • Sophomore Sasha Ross (Canyon del Oro HS) produces five aces. Freshman Taylor Crawford (Ironwood Ridge HS) had 30 assists and sophomore Morgan Hains (Canyon del Oro HS) posted 16 digs and three aces.

The Aztecs trail South Mountain Community College by one game in the ACCAC standings for the final Region I, Division II playoff spot as they face the Cougars on Wednesday in Phoenix. The match begins at 7:00 p.m.
