Aztecs Cross Country Teams Take Fifth at Dave Murray Invitational
The Pima Community College men's and women's cross country teams competed in the Dave Murray Invitational on Friday at the Dell Urich Golf Course.
The No. 11 ranked men's team took fifth with a team score of 118 points. The only other ACCAC team that raced was Mesa Community, who took fourth with 115 points. Arizona State University took first with 16 points, the University of Arizona took second with 61 and Northern Arizona University placed third with 75 points.
Sophomore Amanuel Logo (Catalina HS) placed 18th out of 60 runners with a time of 23 minutes, 01.00 seconds in the 4.25-mile race. Fellow sophomore Ahmed Mohamed (Rincon HS) (pictured) took 31st with a time of 23:40 while freshman Anas Ali (Catalina HS) crossed the finish line in 35th place at 23:58. Sophomore Hugo Nieves (Sunnyside HS) was 36th with a time of 24:05. Freshman Armando Antonio Jr (Desert View HS) took 42nd with a time of 24:35.
The No. 9 ranked Aztecs women's team finished in fifth place with a total of 128 points. Mesa Community College took fourth with 119. Arizona State University placed first with 25 points, the University of Arizona took second with 34 and Northern Arizona University finished third with 94 points.
Sophomore Kelsey Montano (Sunnyside HS) had the best finish among the Aztecs as she took 24th place in the 3.0-mile race with a time of 18:50. Sophomore Elizabeth Deaton (Cienega HS) finished 38th among the 50 competitors with a time of 20:20 while freshman Samantha Felzien crossed the finish line in 39th place at 20:39. Sophomore Desire Montenegro placed 40th with a time of 20:42 and sophomore Mariah Zavala (Amphitheater HS) took 41st at 20:49.
The Aztecs will host the ACCAC Meet next Friday at the El Rio Golf Course. The men's race will begin at 8:00 a.m. and the women's race will follow at 8:45 a.m.
