Montano Takes Third, Logo Places Fourth at ACCAC Conference Championships

The Pima Community College men's and women's cross country teams each took third place at ACCAC Conference Championships on Friday at the El Rio Golf Course.

In the women's 3.11-mile race, the Aztecs placed third with 66 points. Central Arizona took first place with 33 points and Mesa finished second with 54 points. The Aztecs beat Paradise Valley (80), Glendale (113) and Estrella Mountain (157).

Sophomore Kelsey Montano (Tucson Magnet HS) was named first-team All-ACCAC conference after she finished third out of 37 competitors with a time of 19 minutes, 41.7 seconds. She was two minutes behind the second place finisher and 21 seconds back from first place. The Aztecs produced two finishers who received second-team All-ACCAC conference honors. Sophomore Elizabeth Deaton (Cienega HS) took ninth with a time of 20:27.1 and fellow sophomore Mariah Zavala (Amphitheater HS) placed 12th at 20:43.0. Freshman Samantha Felzien took 19th place and earned All-ACCAC conference honorable mention with her finish time of 21:23.9.

In the men's 4.97-mile race, the Aztecs took third with 85 points. Paradise Valley Community College finished in first place with 34 while Central Arizona College placed second with 42 points. Pima beat out Glendale Community College (100) and Mesa Community College (103).

Sophomore Amanuel Logo (Catalina HS) finished the race in fourth place out of 54 runners and earned first-team All-ACCAC conference. He crossed with a time of 25 minutes, 52.0 seconds. Sophomore Ahmed Mohamed (Rincon HS) was named second-team All-ACCAC conference after he placed 13th with a time of 26:59.1. Sophomore Mark Bennett (Marana HS) was named All-ACCAC conference honorable mention after he finished in 19th place with a time of 27:28.6.

The Aztecs will compete in the Mesa CC Thunderbird Classic on Saturday, Oct. 10 at Mesa Community College. The men's race begins at 7:00 a.m. and the women's race will follow at 7:45 a.m.
