Aztecs Women's Cross Country Take 4th; Men Finish 5th at Mt. SAC Invitational

The Pima Community College men's and women's cross country teams competed in the Mt. San Antonio College (Mt. SAC) Invitational on Friday in Walnut, CA.

The No. 4 ranked Aztecs women's team took fourth place out of 18 teams with a score of 142 points. Freshman Samantha Felzien was the top finisher for the Aztecs in the 3.0-mile race as she took 18th place out of 143 runners with a time of 19 minutes, 43 seconds. Sophomore Elizabeth Deaton (Cienega HS) finished right behind her as she crossed the finish line in 19th place at 19:45.

Sophomore Desire Montenegro (Sunnyside HS) took 23rd place with a time of 19:53 while fellow sophomore Mariah Zavala completed the race in 27th at 19:58. Sophomore Edith Arvizu (Rio Rico HS) was 80th with a time of 21:53.

The No. 13 ranked Aztecs men's team took fifth place out of 18 teams with a score of 128 points. They were seven points off from the fourth spot. Sophomore Amanuel Logo (Catalina HS) was the top finisher for the Aztecs in the 4.0-mile race as he took fourth place with a time of 20:55. Fellow sophomore Mark Bennett (Marana HS) crossed the finish line in ninth place with a time of 21:17. Logo and Bennett received medals for their finishes.

Sophomore Ahmed Mohamed (Rincon HS) finished the race with a time of 22:01 which put him in 21st place. Sophomore Hugo Nieves (Sunnyside HS) took 47th place after he finished at 22:42 and freshman Anas Ali (Catalina HS) took 71st at 23:05.

The Aztecs are off for a week and then compete in the NJCAA Region I Championships on Friday, Oct. 30 at Villago Park in Casa Grande. The men's race will be at 9:00 a.m. and the women's race will follow at 9:45 p.m.
