Aztecs Cross Country Teams Each Take Fourth Place at George Kyte Invitational

The Pima Community College men's and women's cross country teams opened their seasons on Saturday competing at the George Kyte Invitational at Buffalo Park in Flagstaff.

In the women's race, the Aztecs finished in fourth place out of six teams with 92 points in the Open Division final standings. Dixie State University (UT) took first place with 41 points.

Sophomore Taryn Estavillo (Red Mountain HS) had the best finish for the Aztecs as she took 30th place out of 95 runners. She completed the 2.6-mile race with a time of 17 minutes, 21.20 seconds.

Sophomore Samantha Felzien took 34th place with a time of 17:29.9 while freshman Alondra Carrasco crossed the finish line in 70th with a time of 19:39.2. Freshman Arianna Roche (Cienega HS) placed 76th with a time of 20:34.1 and sophomore Hannah Painter (Flagstaff HS) was 79th at 20:43.6.

In men's competition, the Aztecs took fourth place out of seven teams in the Open Division final standings with 107 points. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University took first place with 27 points.

Sophomore Armando Antonio Jr. (Desert View HS) had the best finish for the Aztecs in the 4.5-mile race. He took 46th out of 100 competitors with a time of 26 minutes, 11.40 seconds.

Freshman Gerrit Ralston finished in 50th place with a time of 26:28.2 while fellow freshman Alonso Sodari (Walden Grove HS) was 56th at 26:44.2. Freshmen Victor Bustamante (Flowing Wells HS) and Ben Bussey (Flowing Wells HS) took 70th and 77th respectively. Bustamante closed out the race with a time of 27:47.2 and Bussey crossed the finish line at 28:06.5.

The Aztecs will compete in the Dave Murray Invitational at the Dell Urich Golf Course on Friday, Sept. 16. The women's race will be at 5:00 p.m. and the men's race will follow at 5:45 p.m.
