Four Cross Country Athletes Named All-Conference at ACCAC Championships

The Pima Community College men's and women's cross country teams competed in the ACCAC Championships on Friday at Villago Park in Casa Grande.

In the men's race, three Aztec runners earned All-ACCAC honors. The Aztecs placed fourth with a team score of 89 points. Sophomore David Fernandez (Ironwood Ridge HS) was the top finisher for the Aztecs as he closed out the 8K (4.97-mile) race with a time of 26:34.2. He took seventh place out of 48 competitors and earned first team All-ACCAC.

Sophomore Armando Antonio Jr. (Desert View HS) took home second team All-ACCAC honors after he crossed the finish line in 15th place with a time of 27:47.1. Freshman Alonso Sodari (Walden Grove HS) was named All-ACCAC Honorable Mention after he placed 17th with a time of 27:59.0.

Sophomore Nick Hald (Mountain View HS) finished in 27th place at 28:33.4 and freshman Garrit Ralston was 30th with a time of 28:55.1.

In the women's 5K (3.11-mile) race, the Aztecs finished in fourth place with a team score of 109 points. Sophomore Samantha Felzien was the top finisher for the Aztecs as she took sixth place out of 41 runners and earned first team All-ACCAC conference. She finished the race with a time of 19 minutes, 09.9 seconds.

Freshman Alondra Carrasco closed out the race in 25th place with a time of 22:04.1 while fellow freshman Erika Rios (Sabino HS) placed 27th with a 22:15.6. Sophomore Hannah Painter (Flagstaff HS) was 31st at 22:43.3 and freshman Monique Ochoa (Sahuaro HS) crossed the finish line in 32nd with a time of 22:42.6.

The Aztecs will compete in the Mesa CC Thunderbird Classic on Saturday, Oct. 8 in Mesa. The women's race will be at 7:00 a.m. and the men's race will follow at 7:45 a.m.
