Felzien Sets Pima School Record with 4th Place Finish at Mt. SAC Invitational

The Pima Community College men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Mt. SAC CC Invitational in Walnut, CA on Friday to close out the regular season.

In the women's 3-mile race, the Aztecs took eighth place out of 17 teams with a team score of 239 points.

Sophomore Samantha Felzien earned medalist honors as she finished the race in fourth place out of 126 runners with a time of 18 minutes, 37.50 seconds. Her placement and time set a Pima school record for this particular race.

Freshman Alondra Carrasco finished in 54th place with a time of 21:22.4 while fellow freshman Arianna Roche (Cienega HS) took 61st after crossing the finish line at 21:40.4. Freshman Monique Ochoa (Sahuaro HS) placed 70th after finishing the race at 22:14.2 and freshman Ericka Rios (Sabino HS) was 71st place at 22:16.3.

In the men's 4-mile race, the No. 19 ranked Aztecs took seventh place out of 17 teams with a team score of 191 points.

Sophomore David Fernandez (Ironwood Ridge HS) earned medalist honors as he finished in sixth place out of 154 competitors with a time of 21:17.3.

Freshman Alonso Sodari (Walden Grove HS) closed out the race in 43rd place with a time of 22:37.3 while sophomore Armando Antonio Jr. (Desert View HS) placed 49th at 22:45.1. Freshman Victor Bustamante (Flowing Wells HS) finished in 69th place as he crossed the finish line at 23:15.8 and sophomore Nick Hald (Mountain View HS) was 84th at 23:41.0.

The Aztecs will compete in the Region I Championships on Saturday, Oct. 29 at Glen Lakes Golf Course in Glendale. The men's 8K race will be at 9:00 a.m. and the women's 5K race will follow at 9:45 a.m.
