Myles and Williams earn national qualifiers to open season at the Puma Indoor Invitational

The Pima Community College men's and women's track & field teams opened the 2019 season on Saturday at the Puma Indoor Invitational at Paradise Valley Community College.

  • Sophomore Hailey Myles (Boulder Creek HS) set a new personal-best and national qualifying mark in the triple jump as she took first place with a jump of 38-feet, 9.75-inches (11.83 meters). The qualifier was set at 11.00 meters.
  • In other women's events, sophomore Anahiramar Lopez (Tucson HS) took first in the high jump with a mark of 5-feet, 1.25-inches (1.56 meters) and fellow sophomore Mecca Marks (Desert Edge HS) finished first in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.56 seconds.
  • In men's competition, sophomore Robert Williams (South Mountain HS) edged out a national qualifying time in the 200-meter dash. He took second place with a time of 21.92 seconds. The national qualifying mark was 22.00 seconds.

The Aztecs will return to Phoenix next Saturday when they compete in the Paradise Valley CC Indoor Invitational. Events begin at 11:00 a.m.
