Pima Community College track & field athlete Tyler Valenzuela (Canyon del Oro HS) signed his letter of intent on Monday and will continue his education and collegiate career at the NCAA Division I level.

Valenzuela, a pole vaulter, signed to compete for Idaho State University out of the Big Sky Conference.

Valenzuela earned NJCAA All-American status for both the Indoor and Outdoor seasons. He placed fifth in the men's pole vault at the NJCAA Division I Outdoor National Championships and took seventh place at the NJCAA Division I Indoor National Championships.

Valenzuela was also a two-time All-ACCAC conference athlete, and this season, earned All-Region status for his third place finish at the NJCAA Region I Championships.

He will join 2018 teammate and fellow pole vaulter Tony Chavez (Bisbee HS) and jumper Seth Jarus (Wickenburg HS) on the 2019-20 squad. Former Pima jump standouts Hannah Bartz (Mountain View HS) and Treyshon Malone (Yuma Catholic HS) competed for the Bengals the last two years.
