Morgan Pepe breaks a Pima school record and takes second place in Pole Vault after first day of NJCAA National Championships

The Pima Community College women's track & field team closed out the first day at the NJCAA Division I National Championships on Thursday at Brown Stadium in West Monroe, LA.
- The Aztecs sit tied for 10th place with eight points as five of the 22 events were scored.
- Freshman Morgan Pepe (Ironwood Ridge HS) took second place in the Pole Vault as she broke a Pima Outdoor school record with a vault of 3.82 meters (12-feet, 6.25-inches). She broke Jaida Olson's record of 3.80 meters (12-5.50) set in 2022. Pepe's previous best was 3.72 meters (12-2.25) that she set when she claimed the region crown earlier this month. Her finish also earned her NJCAA All-American honors.
Other Pima finishes at the NJCAA Division I National Championships:
- Kapualani Magnani (Empire HS) – 12th place in Hammer Throw 42.82 meters (140-6).
- Annika Arvayo (Salpointe Catholic HS) – 16th place in Hammer Throw 41.47 meters (136-0).
- Tianna Moseley – Tied for 17th place in Long Jump 5.44 meters (17-10.25).
- Maylee Thompson (Willcox HS) – 23rd place in Long Jump 5.21 meters (17-1.25).
- Jenyce Lopez (Canyon del Oro HS) – 24th place in Hammer Throw 35.73 meters (117-2).
The Aztecs continue competition at the NJCAA Division I National Championships on Friday at Brown Stadium in West Monroe, LA.
