Haley Duncan has 14 kills and four blocks but Aztecs Volleyball drops home finale to Glendale CC

The Pima Community College volleyball team (7-17, 4-10 in ACCAC) played its final home match of the season on Wednesday against Glendale Community College (10-8, 9-5).

  • The Aztecs fell in straight sets to the No. 11 ranked Gauchos 25-19, 25-16, 25-22.
  • Sophomore Haley Duncan (Walden Grove HS) finished the match with a team-high 14 kills and four blocks.
  • Sophomore Isabella Jacome closed out the match with 30 assists and six digs while fellow sophomore Jessica Bright-Schade (Safford HS) posted eight kills and nine digs.
  • Freshman Morgan Hains (Canyon del Oro HS), who was named the ACCAC Division II Defensive Player of the Week (Oct. 17-23), posted 14 digs and three aces.
  • After the match, the Aztecs recognized their sophomores: Duncan, Jacome, Bright-Schade, Deanna Almaguer, Isabel Hansen (Rincon HS), Emma Messerle (Buena HS), Madi Wilson (Tanque Verde HS) and Makylee Wilson (Cienega HS).
  • "I am incredibly proud of our sophomores. Their dedication and efforts are a credit to the character that each of them possesses," Pima volleyball coach Dan Bithell said. "Obviously tonight's result isn't what any of us wanted or planned for but responding to adversity is something that these guys have done day in and day out. I expect them to continue to respond until there are no more points left to play. They have and continue to represent their team with class and great spirit."

The Aztecs will close out the regular season on Friday when they play at Yavapai College. The match is set for a 7:00 p.m. start time.
