Aztecs Volleyball rallies from 0-2 deficit to beat South Mountain CC in five sets

The Pima Community College volleyball team (11-16, 7-8 in ACCAC) earned a big ACCAC conference win on Wednesday at South Mountain Community College (12-15, 7-8).

  • The Aztecs dropped the first two sets but rallied off three straight victories to topple the Cougars in five sets (22-25, 20-25, 25-23, 25-15, 15-12). The Aztecs and the Cougars are now tied for the No. 4 and final seed for the NJCAA Region I, Division II Tournament.
  • Sophomore Abby Whatton (Canyon del Oro HS) led the way with a team-high 17 kills and completed her double-double with 15 digs.
  • Freshman Kenna Simon finished in double figures as well with 10 kills to go along with five blocks. Sophomore Christina Shaffer (Pusch Ridge Christian HS) finished the match with eight kills.
  • Freshman Taylor Crawford (Ironwood Ridge HS) closed it out with 48 assists, three aces and three blocks while sophomore Morgan Hains (Canyon del Oro HS) added 28 digs and four aces.

The Aztecs close out the regular season on Friday when they host Glendale Community College at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium. The match is set to start at 7:00 p.m.
